An amazing place in Ruidoso, New Mexico
Counter
Welcome to our web site. It isn't just about our mountain home, it's also about an amazing place, Ruidoso,
New Mexico. This is a fascinating area with a rich history. Here are just a couple of facts and challenges:

  • Do you know what the New Mexico state question is?
  • Do you know where and when the world's richest horse race is held?
  • Do you where the real Smokey the Bear came from?
  • How about the story behind the Lincoln County wars and how Billy the Kid was involved?

Well, I'm not going to answer all those questions, but I hope they get you thinking, interested in doing
some research and, eventually, coming for a visit.

If you go down the research path, I'd suggest picking up a copy of Doug Preston's "Cities of Gold, A
Journey Across the American Southwest in Coronado's Footsteps." This is a fascinating story of the author
and a friend retracing, on horseback, the journey of Coronado from the Mexico/Arizona border to San Jose,
NM. It is both a modern and historic portrait of the Southwest. You might recognize Doug's name. Along
with a number of books on his own, he has coauthored books with Lincoln Child including a science fiction
classic, "Relic," which was also made into a great science fiction thriller movie.
